Materials: Worsted-weight yarn: 32 oz. background color, 24 oz. lattice color, 8 oz. flower color (total of any combination of colors desired). G hook (4.25mm)

Stitches: U.S. terminology

 ch = chain    sc = single crochet    dc = double crochet    trc = triple crochet
 sp = space   sl = slip   st(s) = stitch(es)   rnd = round   beg = beginning   sk = skip

Color A = background color; Color B = lattice color; Color C = flower color:

When changing colors, yarn over hook with new color and draw through last loops of last st of old color (loop on hook is ready to begin new color). When working with two colors of yarn, work over color not in use.

Square (make 48)

Rnd 1: With color C yarn, ch 2, 8 sc in second ch from hook.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, sc in beg sc, (ch 3, sc in next sc) 7 times.

Rnd 3: Sl st to ch-3 sp, ch 3, holding last loop of each trc on hook, 3 trc in beg ch-3 sp, yarn over hook, pull through all 4 loops on hook - beg 4-trc cluster made, ch 3, * holding last loop of each trc on hook, 4 trc in next ch-3 sp, yarn over hook, pull through all 5 loops on hook - 4-trc cluster made, ch 5, 4-trc cluster in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, repeat from * twice; 4-trc cluster in last ch-3 sp, ch 5, sl st in top of beg trc cluster. Cut yarn and fasten.

Rnd 4: With color B yarn, make a slip knot on hook and join with an sc in ch-5 sp, (ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) in beg ch-5 sp, *4 dc in next ch-3 sp, (4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) in next ch-5 sp, repeat from * twice, 4 dc in next ch-3 sp, 1 dc in beg ch-5 sp, sl st in top of beg ch-2.

Rnd 5: Sl st in each st to ch-2 sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in beg ch-2 sp, *changing to color A ( at end of last st of color B), dc in each of next 12 dc (working over color B), changing to color B, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp (working over color A), repeat from * twice; changing to color A, dc in each of next 12 dc, changing to color B (working over color A), sc in top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 6: Sc in each of next 2 sts, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, *changing to color A, sk next st, dc in each of next 16 sts, sk next st, changing to color B, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * twice; changing to color A, sk next st, dc in each of next 16 sts, sk next st, changing to color B (working over color A), sc in top of beg ch-2.

Rnd 7: Sc in each of next 2 sts, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, *changing to color A, sk next st, dc in each of next 20 sts, sk next st, changing to color B, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * twice; changing to color A, sk next st, dc in each of next 20 sts, sk next st, changing to color B (working over color A), sc in top of beg ch-2.

Rnd 8: Sc in each of next 2 sts, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, *changing to color A, sk next st, dc in each of next 24 sts, sk next st, changing to color B, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * twice; changing to color A, sk next st, dc in each of next 24 sts, sk next st, sl st in top of beg ch-2. Cut color A yarn leaving a short tail if first square, a 2 foot tail if joining one side or a 3 foot tail if joining two sides, and fasten. Cut color B. Using a tapestry needle, weave color A yarn to corner and join to previous squares by whipstitching back loops only together. For 48 squares, join 6 squares wide and 8 squares long.

Edging:

With right side facing, using color B, make a slip knot on hook and join with an *sc in first color A sc on side block of afghan, (sk next 2 sts, 6 dc in next st, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st) 4 times, sk next 2 sts, 6 trc in next ch-2 sp, 6 trc in next ch-2 sp, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st, repeat from * to corner block of afghan; sc in next st (first color A sc on side block of afghan), (sk next 2 sts, 6 dc in next st, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st) 4 times, sk next 2 sts, (5 trc, ch 2, 5 trc) in corner ch-2 space, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st, repeat from * around afghan to end, sl st in beg sc. Cut yarn and fasten.
