Running Stitch Eyeglass Case

Materials: One ball each of two colors bedspread weight cotton crochet thread, C hook (2.75 mm), a 5 by 20 inch piece of flannel, 1/2 inch button.

Stitches: U.S. terminology:

   ch = chain     sc = single crochet     dc = double crochet
   trc = triple crochet     st(s) = stitch(es)     sk = skip

Front

Row 1: Using two threads, one of each color, ch 20, sc in 2cd ch from hook, sc in each ch to end, ch 1 and turn. [19 sc]

Row 2: Picking up front loop only (2 threads, one of each color) of st in this and following rows, 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 17 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1 and turn. [21 sc]

Row 3: 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 19 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1 and turn. [23 sc]

Row 4: 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 21 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1 and turn. [25 sc]

Row 5: Sc in each of first 12 sts, trc in next st (keep trc just made to back of work), sc in each of next 12 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Row 6 (Outside): Sc in each of next 25 sts across, ch 1 and turn.

Row 7: Sc in each of first 10 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 10 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Row 8: Repeat row 6.

Row 9: Sc in each of first 8 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 7 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 8 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Row 10: Repeat row 6.

Row 11: Sc in each of first 6 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 11 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Row 12: Repeat row 6.

Row 13: Sc in each of first 4 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 7 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 7 sts, trc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Row 14: Repeat row 6.

Row 15: Sc in each of first 6 sts, *trc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, repeat from * twice; trc in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Rows 16-37: Repeat rows 6, 9, 6, 15, 6, 13, 6, 15, 6, 9, 6, 15, 6, 13, 6, 11, 6, 9, 6, 7, 6, 5 in order given.

Rows 38-46: Repeat row 6 nine times. On last row do not ch 1 and turn. Cut yarn and fasten.

Lining and Button: Sew button to right front top of case just above last trc. Fold flannel in long direction right sides together and place front case bottom on fold. Using case as a pattern, cut sides and top of flannel 1/2 inch from case for seams and top fold. Sew sides of flannel together and trim seams to 1/8 inch. Fold top down 1/2 inch. Lining made.

Back

Rows 1-37: Work same as front through row 37.

Rows 38 - 47: Repeat row 6 ten times.

Row 48: Sc in each of 25 sts across, ch 4 (counts as first dc plus ch 1 on next row) and turn.

Row 49: Sk first 2 sts, work remaining rows picking up both loops (all 4 threads) of st, *dc in next st, ch 1, sk next st, repeat from * 10 times; dc in last st, ch 3 (counts as first dc on next row) and turn.

Row 50: 2 dc in first st (at base of ch-3), *sk next 2 sts, sc in next st, sk next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, repeat from * twice; sk next 2 sts, sc in next st, sk next 2 sts, 3 dc in 3rd ch of ch-4, ch 1 and turn.

Row 51: Sc in each of first 12 sts, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next st - button loop made, sc in each of next 12 sts, ch 1 and turn to side.

Joining Row: With insides facing, place front on back matching bottoms, sc around joining two pieces, continuing, end at top side shell. Cut yarn and fasten.

Finishing: Weave in all loose ends. Slipstitch lining to top inside of case.
